(WNY News Now) – ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Wayne County man will serve 30 months in federal prison after being convicted of stealing a firearm from a licensed dealer.
Lucas Burke, 23, of Wolcott, NY, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa following his conviction for theft of a firearm from a federal firearms licensee, U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Moynihan, the incident occurred on October 7, 2023, when the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary at East Side Traders on Wooster Way in Ontario, NY. East Side Traders, a federally licensed firearms dealer, reported an unauthorized entry into the store.
Investigators determined that around 4:55 a.m., Burke smashed a window near the entrance and gained access to the building. Once inside, he stole a rifle and attempted to take two additional firearms but was unsuccessful.
The case was prosecuted as part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, which focuses on reducing violent crime through strategic enforcement efforts and community partnerships.
The investigation was conducted by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), New York Field Division, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan Miller.
