(WNY News Now) – OLEAN, N.Y. — A 27-year-old Olean man was taken into custody Friday morning after leading police on a pursuit in a stolen truck, ultimately crashing near St. Bonaventure University.

At approximately 7:20 a.m., a patrol officer spotted a truck on South 16th Street that had been reported stolen by Cuba Police. The driver, later identified as Kaine D. Bunker, attempted to evade police by driving recklessly, heading west on West State Street before losing control while turning onto East Union Street in Allegany. The vehicle struck a tree near St. Bonaventure, and Bunker attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
Bunker sustained minor injuries and was transported to Olean General Hospital for treatment. He is facing multiple charges, including:
- Criminal possession of stolen property (D felony)
- Fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle (A misdemeanor)
- Reckless driving (A misdemeanor)
- Resisting arrest (A misdemeanor)
- Obstructing governmental administration (A misdemeanor)
- Seven vehicle and traffic violations
Authorities confirmed that Bunker will be arraigned after his release from the hospital. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
