(WNY News Now) – Otto, NY – A Cattaraugus County man was arrested on March 5 following a larceny complaint that led authorities to uncover illegal firearm possession, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a report of a theft at a residence on March 5, 2025 on North Otto Road and identified Jason L. Kelley, 44, of Otto, NY, as a suspect. During the investigation, officers discovered Kelley was unlawfully in possession of a firearm, violating an existing court order prohibiting him from doing so. Additionally, authorities found a semi-automatic rifle that was not compliant with the New York SAFE Act, along with a high-capacity magazine loaded into the weapon.

Kelley was taken into custody and transported to the Cattaraugus County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Otto Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
