(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, NY – An 18-year-old former student of Canisius University has been sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge after pleading guilty to posting a threat against the school on social media, Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced.

As part of his sentencing, the defendant must complete 60 hours of community service and continue with counseling. Buffalo City Court Judge Tiffany R. Perry handed down the sentence on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on August 22, 2024, at approximately 11:37 a.m. when the defendant, who was enrolled at Canisius University at the time, posted a threat targeting the institution. Authorities quickly identified and arrested him.

In January 2025, the defendant pleaded guilty to Making a Threat of Mass Harm, a Class B misdemeanor. Due to his age, he was adjudicated as a youthful offender, preventing his name from being publicly released.

District Attorney Keane praised Detective Nicole Wrazen and the Buffalo Police Department Threat Management Unit for their swift investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kevin L. Southern of the Felony Trials Bureau.
