(WNY News Now) – A Fredonia woman was charged with petit larceny after stealing jail property on her way out of the facility, leading to a new arrest after her previous release.
On March 5, 2025, at approximately 8:03 PM, Vanessa R. Stevens, a 34-year-old resident of Fredonia, NY, was released from the Chautauqua County Jail on unrelated charges. However, as she exited the facility, Stevens proceeded to steal property from the jail’s visiting lobby.
Following the theft, Stevens was re-arrested on unrelated charges and returned to the County Jail on March 11, 2025. During this time, she was arraigned on charges of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, for her actions on March 5.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
