(WNY News Now) – OLEAN, NY – A Delevan man was taken into custody early Friday morning following a traffic stop that led to a brief pursuit.

According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped 30-year-old Gerald R. Sullivan Jr. on his bicycle at approximately 1:31 a.m. on West Henley Street near South 2nd Street due to multiple violations. Authorities say Sullivan provided a false name before fleeing on his bicycle and later on foot.

Deputies, with assistance from the City of Olean Police Department, apprehended Sullivan shortly thereafter. A background check revealed an active arrest warrant issued by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office.

Sullivan was transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Olean Substation for processing. He was charged with Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, and False Personation. Additionally, he received two traffic citations for operating a bicycle without lights and without a bell.

Following processing, Sullivan was turned over to the Arcade Police Department and transferred into the custody of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office for the outstanding warrant.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
