(WNY News Now) – ELLICOTT, NY – A routine traffic stop in the early hours of March 22 led to multiple felony and misdemeanor charges for a Celoron man after he allegedly resisted arrest and damaged a police vehicle.
According to the Town of Ellicott Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle for speeding near Fairmount Ave and Warwick Ave at approximately 2:08 a.m. The driver, identified as Simeon A. Leeper, 48, was found to have a revoked license and was operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device.
When officers attempted to take Leeper into custody, he resisted arrest, allegedly kicking an officer’s hand against a patrol vehicle door, causing a minor injury. During transport to the Chautauqua County Jail, Leeper reportedly kicked the rear door of a patrol car, causing significant damage.
Leeper faces the following charges:
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the First Degree (Felony)
- Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree (Felony)
- Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor)
- Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree (Misdemeanor)
- Speeding in a Zone
- Operating a Motor Vehicle Without an Ignition Interlock Device
Leeper was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail pending arraignment. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Ellicott Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The New York State Police, Lakewood-Busti Police Department, and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the incident.
