(WNY News Now) – Authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred Friday morning in the Town of Newfane.
Newfane, NY — 33-year-old Cody M. Diemkaye of Amherst, NY was struck and killed by a truck on Hess Road in Newfane on Friday morning, April 25, 2025, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 10:07 a.m., the Niagara County Sheriff’s Communications Division received a 911 call reporting that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle in the 2700 block of Hess Road. Deputies responded quickly and located Diemkaye lying in the northbound lane. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by deputies and EMS personnel, Diemkaye was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 2011 Freightliner truck was traveling northbound when it struck Diemkaye. The driver of the truck, 43-year-old Kevin A. Bittner of Barker, NY, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Accident Investigation Unit and Criminal Investigation Bureau are continuing to investigate the incident, with assistance from the New York State Police.
Emergency response included personnel from the Miller Hose Fire Company and its ambulance services.
Authorities stated that additional information would be released as it becomes available.
