JAMESTOWN – A Jamestown man was taken into custody following a warrant-related street check that escalated into a confrontation involving a weapon.

On April 29, 2025, at approximately 6:07 p.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a GIVE (Gun Involved Violence Elimination) hotspot patrol in the east side area of the city. During the patrol, officers encountered 59-year-old Darrin E. Pangborn, whom they recognized as having active warrants issued by the Jamestown Police Department.

According to police, when officers attempted to arrest Pangborn, he allegedly drew an open pocket knife and raised it in an aggressive manner toward them. A brief physical altercation ensued before officers were able to safely subdue and arrest him.

Pangborn was charged with Menacing a Police Officer, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, and Resisting Arrest, in addition to the original outstanding warrants.

He was transported to Jamestown City Jail and is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
