(WNY News Now) – A routine traffic stop in the City of Olean led to the arrest of a Little Genesee man for drug possession and multiple vehicle violations.

OLEAN, NY — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of 47-year-old Michael P. Scholl of Little Genesee, NY, following a traffic stop in the early morning hours of May 9, 2025.

At approximately 12:38 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on E. State Street in the City of Olean after observing multiple vehicle and traffic law violations. Scholl, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was found to be operating a vehicle that was uninspected, had a broken muffler, and broken glass.

During the stop, Scholl voluntarily consented to a search of his person. Deputies reportedly discovered a quantity of suspected crack cocaine in his possession.

Scholl was taken into custody and transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Olean Substation for processing. He was later released with an appearance ticket for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, as well as several uniform traffic tickets, including:

  • Uninspected Motor Vehicle
  • No or Inadequate Muffler
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with Broken Glass

Scholl is scheduled to appear in City of Olean Court at a later date for further legal proceedings. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
