(WNY News Now) – A Buffalo resident faces federal charges for allegedly participating in a multi-year drug trafficking conspiracy in Jamestown involving heroin and fentanyl.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A federal grand jury has indicted Jason Talley, 46, of Buffalo, on charges of narcotics conspiracy in connection with a heroin and fentanyl trafficking operation based in Jamestown, according to U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo.

The indictment alleges that between 2018 and May 26, 2022, Talley conspired with Joseph S. Zaso and several others to distribute heroin and fentanyl throughout the Jamestown area. The charge carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life if convicted.

Co-defendants in the case include Andres Pizzaro Campos, Joseph Thayer, Max Pizzaro Campos, Cindy Frank, Edward Leeper, and Jaquez L. Thomas. Zaso was previously convicted and is awaiting sentencing.

Talley was arraigned before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer and has been ordered detained pending further proceedings.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a federal initiative led by the U.S. Department of Justice that focuses on dismantling drug trafficking organizations and reducing violent crime. The initiative coordinates resources through the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) programs.

The indictment is the result of an investigation by the Jamestown Police Department, under the direction of Chief Timothy Jackson, the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Frank A. Tarentino III, New York Field Division, and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff James Quattrone.
