(WNY News Now) – A Jamestown resident was taken into custody Wednesday morning following a confrontation involving a hatchet on the city’s south side.

JAMESTOWN – On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at approximately 8:22 a.m., officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s 1st Platoon responded to a report of a disorderly person at a residence on the city’s south side.

According to police, the incident began when workers were performing yard cleanup at the property. The resident, identified as 27-year-old Tyler J. Cahill of Jamestown, allegedly began yelling at the workers. Authorities say Cahill then went back into the residence, retrieved a hatchet, and returned outside, where he reportedly waved the weapon in a threatening manner.

Officers arrested Cahill at the scene without further incident. He was charged with Menacing in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree.

Cahill was transported to the Jamestown City Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
