(WNY News Now) – A 43-year-old Amherst resident will spend more than 15 years in prison following his conviction for fentanyl trafficking and related drug offenses.
BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced that Dewayne Vass, 43, of Amherst, has been sentenced to 188 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.

The conviction stems from a search conducted on July 12, 2024, when law enforcement executed warrants at a Moselle Avenue residence connected to Vass, as well as at his Sunshine Drive home and his vehicle.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, the searches yielded significant quantities of fentanyl and cocaine, approximately $127,000 in cash, a firearm, and various items of drug paraphernalia.
The case was investigated by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff John Garcia, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia.
