(WNY News Now) – On May 19, 2025, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Thomas A. Schmid Jr., 34, of Mayville, following an incident at a Village of Mayville business where he allegedly threatened two individuals with a knife.
Chautauqua County law enforcement responded to a call around 1:53 a.m. on May 19 regarding an altercation at a business in Mayville, NY. Upon arrival, deputies identified Thomas A. Schmid Jr. as the suspect involved in the incident.
Following a brief investigation, deputies determined that Schmid struck two individuals on site and displayed a knife in a threatening manner. As a result, Schmid was arrested and charged with second-degree harassment, second-degree menacing, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
After his arrest, Schmid was transported to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office for processing. He was then taken to a local hospital for an evaluation unrelated to the incident. Following medical clearance, Schmid was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Chautauqua Court at a later date.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
