JAMESTOWN, NY — A routine traffic stop in Brooklyn Square led to the arrest of a Jamestown man on Friday, May 23, 2025, after he attempted to flee from law enforcement on a stolen e-bike.
According to the Jamestown Police Department, officers were working alongside the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department as part of a GIVE (Gun Involved Violence Elimination) patrol detail when they observed a man on an e-bike run a stop sign at approximately 3:43 p.m.
When officers attempted to initiate a stop, the subject fled the area, prompting a short pursuit. He was located a short time later hiding along the riverbank behind the Big Lots store in Brooklyn Square and was taken into custody without further incident.
The individual was identified as 38-year-old Jonathan Yates, a resident of Jamestown. Further investigation revealed that the e-bike he was operating had been reported stolen in September 2024 within the city.
