(WNY News Now) – Raymond A. Gates, 39, of Jamestown, was arrested early May 27 following a domestic assault investigation at a North Side residence.

On May 27, 2025, at approximately 5:59 a.m., officers from the third platoon responded to a reported assault at a North Side address in Jamestown. Upon arrival, police determined that Raymond A. Gates assaulted a victim using a baton flashlight.

During the investigation, officers witnessed Gates attempt to flee the scene but were able to apprehend him promptly. Further inquiry revealed that Gates was involved in a domestic incident inside the residence where he allegedly choked the victim and displayed a knife, preventing the victim from escaping.

Gates faces multiple charges including Assault in the Second Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Menacing in the Second Degree, Unlawful Imprisonment in the Second Degree, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, and Resisting Arrest.

He is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
