(WNY News Now) – A slice of pizza meets a slice of democracy as the Robert H. Jackson Center invites students to weigh in on today’s toughest civic questions—one ruling at a time.
Step into the role of judge. What would you decide if you were the one wearing the robe? Join us at the Robert H. Jackson Center for A Slice of History: Bob’s Pop-Up Court, a hands-on mini-exhibit, Saturday, June 14, noon – 4:30 p.m.
In Bob’s Pop-up Court, visitors will hear short arguments on real-world civic dilemmas and cast their rulings. This event is part of Civic Season, a nationwide initiative from Made By Us that connects history with action from Juneteenth to July 4. The Center is also partnering with Pizza to the Polls for the day’s refreshments.
Should schools be allowed to punish students for off-campus social media posts? Can teens be trusted with the right to vote at 16? What about National Anthem Protests? After making judgements, students will add their voice to the Justice Tree with a personal reflection and make a civic pledge for the year ahead. Snap a selfie in our makeshift courtroom, and, if feeling bold, record your verdict for social media.
Free pizza and snacks will be available for participants while they last; first come, first served!
