Traffic stop on Lincoln Avenue leads to drug possession and obstruction charges for 55-year-old man.
(WNY News Now) – DUNKIRK, N.Y. – A traffic stop in Dunkirk led to the arrest of a Fredonia man on multiple drug and obstruction charges following a narcotics investigation on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
According to the Dunkirk Police Department, officers initiated a traffic stop on Lincoln Avenue at approximately 6:16 p.m. for a suspected Vehicle and Traffic Law violation. The driver, identified as 55-year-old Kevin M. Tibbetts of Fredonia, was found to be in possession of multiple types of controlled substances.
During the attempt to place Tibbetts under arrest, he allegedly resisted officers and attempted to destroy the suspected narcotics by stepping on them. In the process, one officer was struck by Tibbetts’ foot. Authorities transported Tibbetts to Dunkirk Police Headquarters for processing, where the substances were identified as two types of controlled substance pills and suspected crack cocaine.
Tibbetts was charged with three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd degree, Resisting Arrest, Harassment in the 2nd degree, and various traffic infractions. He was released on appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
