Deputies say driver was clocked at 99 mph and refused breath test
(WNY News Now) – CARROLLTON, N.Y. — A 30-year-old Olean man is facing multiple charges, including Driving While Intoxicated, after being stopped by Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s deputies for speeding on Interstate 86 early Thursday morning.
According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, Shawn Laney was arrested on June 19, 2025, at approximately 4:40 a.m. after deputies observed his vehicle traveling 99 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone in the Town of Carrollton.
During the traffic stop, deputies noted visible signs of intoxication and discovered open containers of alcohol inside the vehicle. Laney allegedly refused to submit to a breath test at the scene.
He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Speeding in Zone, Refusal to Take a Breath Test, and Drinking Alcohol in a Vehicle on a Highway.
Laney was processed at the scene and released with an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Carrollton Town Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
