Traffic violation in Olean leads to discovery of suspected fentanyl, prescription pills, and drug paraphernalia
(WNY News Now) – OLEAN, NY — A 42-year-old woman from Olean is facing multiple drug-related charges after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of suspected narcotics and paraphernalia early Monday morning, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 1:08 a.m. on June 30, 2025, deputies conducted a traffic stop on North 15th Street in the City of Olean. The driver, identified as Katie L. Melaro, was pulled over for multiple vehicle and traffic law violations, including insufficient signaling and an inadequate exhaust.
During the stop, deputies observed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed a quantity of suspected fentanyl, suspected Vyvanse, suspected acetaminophen and hydrocodone, along with packaging materials, a scale, and additional drug-related items.
Melaro was taken into custody and transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Olean Substation for processing. She was charged with:
- Three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree
- Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree – Packaging
- Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree – Scale
- Two counts of Insufficient Signal
- No/Inadequate Exhaust
She was issued an appearance ticket along with multiple uniform traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in the City of Olean Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
