Police say victim sustained serious head injury; suspect found in possession of cocaine and paraphernalia
(WNY News Now) – DUNKIRK, N.Y. — A 41-year-old Dunkirk man was taken into custody without bail following an assault and drug-related arrest late Monday night, June 23.
According to the Dunkirk Police Department, officers responded around 11:54 p.m. to a report of an assault near East 2nd Street and Columbus Avenue. The victim reported being struck in the head with an object, sustaining significant injuries.
Following an investigation, police identified the suspect as Jesus M. Ramos Jr., of Dunkirk. Officers later located and arrested Ramos. During the arrest, police say they found approximately 1.4 grams of suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia in his possession.
Ramos was charged with Assault in the Second Degree (PL 120.05[2]), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree (PL 220.06[5]), and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree (PL 220.50[2]).
He was transported to Dunkirk Police Headquarters for processing and subsequently arraigned. Ramos was remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail without bail. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
