(WNY News Now) – A Westfield woman is facing charges after police say her young child was found playing unsupervised along a busy roadway.

WESTFIELD, N.Y. — On the evening of July 8, 2025, at approximately 7:43 p.m., the Westfield Police Department responded to reports of an unattended child seen playing on the shoulder of Route 20 near 7580 Rt 20 West in Westfield.

Upon arrival, officers located a 3-year-old child alone and unsupervised on the side of the roadway, raising immediate safety concerns. A short time later, the child’s mother, identified as 23-year-old Angel M. Travis of Westfield, arrived on scene and returned the child home.

Following an investigation, police determined that Travis failed to provide proper supervision, placing the child in a potentially dangerous situation. As a result, Travis was charged under New York Penal Law §260.10(1) with Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

She was taken into custody and transported to Chautauqua County Jail for arraignment in the Town of Westfield Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  1. I’m sorry but if you ask me guilty!!!!!!!! A 3 year old child should not even be on the sidewalk outside their home playing by the road not even if the parent is standing in their yard. That’s just crazy….
