Officers discover drugs and paraphernalia during routine patrol

(WNY News Now) – DUNKIRK, NY — A Portland man is facing drug-related charges following a narcotics investigation initiated during a routine patrol at Point Gratiot on July 3, 2025.

According to the Dunkirk Police Department, officers on the 3-11 shift observed a vehicle parked on the grass around 4:32 p.m. While approaching the vehicle to advise the occupants to move, officers noticed drug paraphernalia in plain view on a passenger, later identified as 33-year-old Shane A. Miller.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of narcotic pills and additional drug paraphernalia. Miller was taken into custody without incident and transported to Dunkirk Police Headquarters for processing.

He was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree (PL 220.03) and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree (PL 220.50 2).

Miller was released on an appearance ticket in accordance with New York State Bail Reform regulations. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
