Police say suspect was found with stolen items shortly after fleeing local business.

(WNY News Now) – DUNKIRK, NY – A 33-year-old Dunkirk resident was charged with petit larceny following a shoplifting incident on Lake Shore Drive West on the evening of Monday, July 14, 2025.

According to the Dunkirk Police Department, officers responded to a retail business around 6:03 PM after receiving a report of a shoplifting in progress. Store employees alleged that a male suspect had stolen merchandise and fled the scene.

Police quickly located a suspect matching the provided description. He was identified as Joshua A. Coffman of Dunkirk. Officers reported finding the stolen items in Coffman’s possession at the time of his apprehension.

Coffman was charged with one count of petit larceny under New York Penal Law §155.25. He was released at the scene on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to answer the charge in court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
