(WNY News Now) – A Portland man is facing multiple charges following repeated disruptive appearances at a local business, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office.
PORTLAND, NY — The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office has charged 65-year-old Raymond M. Near of Portland with stalking and harassment following an ongoing complaint investigated on August 5, 2025, at approximately 5:10 p.m.
Deputies responded to a report of disturbances at a local business in the Town of Portland. According to investigators, Near had repeatedly shown up at the business, causing continued disruptions.
Following an on-scene investigation, Near was taken into custody. Authorities say he was transported to UPMC Chautauqua for an evaluation and later released.
Near was issued appearance tickets for the following charges:
- Stalking in the 3rd degree
- Aggravated Harassment in the 2nd degree
- Harassment in the 2nd degree
He is scheduled to appear in Town of Portland Court at a later date to answer the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
