(WNY News Now) – After months of anticipation, local residents are invited on Friday, August 22, 2025, to celebrate the grand opening of Phatties, a new restaurant located at 880 Foote Avenue in Jamestown.
Jamestown, N.Y. – At the end of April this year, Lori’s Kountry Kafe, a beloved breakfast and lunch diner, closed its doors as its owner, Sherri Shaw, stepped back into semi-retirement. However, all was not lost for the establishment.
Sensing an opportunity, Sherri’s family stepped up to the plate. The building, in need of many repairs, spent nearly four months under remodel to bring the most out of the restaurant. With that process finally reaching completion, its doors are preparing to officially open once more tomorrow, Friday, August 22nd.
The restaurant, now known as Phatties, will serve subs, burgers, wraps, salads, hand-cut french fries, onion rings, and homemade ice cream, as well as a few other miscellaneous items. The hours of operation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Monday to Saturday, while they will be closed on Sundays.
One thing that distinguishes their subs from other locations is both the size and the quantity of meat. Subs can be purchased at either 8 or 16 inches, with an 8 inch sub having half a pound of meat, while a 16 inch sub has a whole pound of meat. And as a special promotion for their grand opening, anyone who purchases a 16″ sub meal will receive a free half-pint of ice cream.
While Sherri has stepped back to alleviate the stress on her shoulders, she remains a core part of the restaurant, and will continue to come in and serve her regular customers who were a staple of Lori’s.
Though it is a new enterprise, the name Phatties pays homage to its spiritual predecessor, which first made waves as a sub shop on 3rd Street in Jamestown back in 2010, where it quickly became a local sensation, especially its signature Mouthful of Meat, a slow-roasted Italian Beef sub with its own seasoned mayonnaise.
Now back with the many subs that remain embedded in the memories of its patrons, as well as an expanded menu of delicious new items, Phatties looks forward to serving residents of the area, and hopes to wow people even more than it did before.
