(WNY News Now) – ELLICOTT, N.Y. – On Saturday, September 27, 2025, Chautauqua County will host a unique community event — the Stomp Out the Stigma 5K, an evening run and walk held directly on the runway at the Chautauqua County/Jamestown Airport.

Organized by the Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County, the event aims to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention. As participants move down the illuminated tarmac at sunset, the race will symbolize the journey from darkness into light, offering a message of hope and resilience.

We wanted to do something bold, and what’s bolder than lighting up a runway for suicide prevention?” said Carri Raynor, Director of the Suicide Prevention Alliance. “This 5K is about movement and meaning. It’s about showing up for those who need support, honoring those we’ve lost, and proving that hope is alive and well in our county.
