(WNY News Now) – A Brighton, Michigan man faces an assault charge following an altercation at a business in Ripley on Friday night.
RIPLEY, N.Y. — The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies responded to a business on Shortman Road in the Town of Ripley around 9:37 p.m. on October 17, 2025, for a possible assault victim.
According to investigators, 64-year-old George W. Bonniville of Brighton, Michigan, was involved in a verbal altercation with another individual during which he allegedly discharged personal defense spray toward the other person.
Emergency responders from Ripley Fire and EMS treated the victim at the scene, and the individual was later released. Deputies located Bonniville nearby following the incident.
Bonniville was charged with Assault in the Third Degree and issued an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Ripley Court at a later date to answer the charge. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
