(WNY News Now) – RIPLEY, N.Y. — A 58-year-old Ripley man was arrested on felony DWI charges after deputies responded to a report of a vehicle in a ditch Friday morning.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 7:44 a.m. on October 31, 2025, to the intersection of NE Sherman Road and South Ripley Road for a vehicle off the roadway. Upon arrival and investigation, the driver was identified as George E. Stoddard, 58, of Ripley.

Deputies determined that Stoddard had been operating his vehicle while intoxicated. His blood alcohol content was recorded at .27%, more than three times the legal limit.

Stoddard was charged with Moving from Lane Unsafely, Improper or Unsafe Turn, Felony Driving While Intoxicated, and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated.

He was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Ripley Town Court at a later date. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
