(WNY News Now) – Dunkirk, NY — Dunkirk Police arrested a local man for petit larceny following a shoplifting incident on Monday evening.
On March 16, 2026, at approximately 5:27 PM, Dunkirk Police 3-11 Patrol officers responded to a local store regarding a past-tense shoplifting report. After reviewing surveillance footage, officers identified 39-year-old Derek Coombs as the suspect.
According to police, Coombs concealed merchandise and left the store without paying. He was located shortly thereafter and arrested for petit larceny under NY Penal Law 155.25. Coombs was released with an appearance ticket in accordance with New York State Bail Reform. He is scheduled to appear before Dunkirk City Court before Honorable Judge Kuzdale. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
