(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A Jamestown man was taken into custody Monday afternoon after officers conducted a street check and discovered he had an active warrant, according to police.

Officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s first platoon reported that at approximately 1:35 p.m. on March 30, 2026, they observed John T. Hopkins, 54, walking near the intersection of West 3rd Street and Jefferson Street.

Police said officers had prior knowledge that Hopkins had an active bench warrant issued through Jamestown Police. He was taken into custody without incident.

During the arrest, officers reported locating a quantity of methamphetamine on Hopkins. As a result, he was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

Hopkins was transported to the Jamestown City Jail and is being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
