(WNY News Now) – OLEAN, N.Y. — A 34-year-old Olean man was arrested Saturday evening after authorities say he was found in possession of suspected fentanyl and drug-related materials during a traffic stop.
According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on March 28, 2026, at approximately 8:24 p.m. on Washington Street in the City of Olean.
Investigators report that Sean D. Dewitt was a passenger in a vehicle that had been stopped by law enforcement. Following an investigation, deputies allege Dewitt was found to be in possession of a quantity of suspected fentanyl, along with a diluent and packaging materials commonly associated with drug use and distribution.
Dewitt was taken into custody and transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office substation in Olean for processing.
He has been charged with:
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree
- Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree (Diluents)
- Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd Degree (Packaging Materials)
Authorities said Dewitt was processed and later released on an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in the City of Olean Court at a later date to answer the charges. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
