(WNY News Now) – A Jamestown man was arrested on multiple charges, including Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, after a reckless moped stop on Fairmount Avenue in the Town of Ellicott on April 9, 2026.
ELLICOTT, NY — A 37-year-old Jamestown resident faces several charges following a traffic stop initiated by the Town of Ellicott Police Department after officers observed a moped/motorcycle being driven in a reckless and erratic manner on Fairmount Avenue.
According to a press release from the Town of Ellicott Police Department, officers attempted a traffic stop on April 9, 2026, after the vehicle was seen operating unsafely. Police reported that the operator, identified as Cody M. Anderson, allegedly failed to comply with lawful commands and continued for a period of time before the situation was brought under control.
Following a subsequent investigation at the scene, authorities determined Anderson was allegedly operating the vehicle while under the influence of drugs. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Anderson has been charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (DWAI-Drugs), Reckless Driving, Failure to Comply with a Lawful Order, and multiple additional vehicle and traffic violations. Police also issued several traffic tickets in connection with the incident.
After his arrest, Anderson was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment processing. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Ellicott Court at a later date to respond to the charges.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
