(WNY News Now) – COLDSPRING, N.Y. — A Coldspring resident has been charged following an investigation into reports of construction nails being placed on a public roadway in Cattaraugus County, according to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Eric A. Butler reported that deputies arrested 68-year-old Todd A. Samples of Coldspring on May 11, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m.

Authorities said the investigation determined that in April 2026, Samples allegedly placed construction nails along Bunker Hill Road in the Town of Coldspring. Deputies said the nails created a nuisance for the public and local residents traveling the roadway.

Samples was charged with Criminal Nuisance and Criminal Tampering. Deputies said he was processed without incident and released with appearance tickets.

He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Coldspring Local Criminal Court at a later date to answer the charges. The charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
