(WNY News Now) – A Pennsylvania man was charged with criminal possession of a firearm after deputies investigated a report of a firearm found inside a bathroom at a truck stop in Carrollton.
CARROLLTON, N.Y. — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reported that a 41-year-old Erie, Pennsylvania resident was charged following a firearm investigation at Sassy’s Truck Stop on Route 219 in Carrollton.
According to Sheriff Eric A. Butler, deputies assigned to the Seneca Nation Allegany Territory responded to the truck stop at approximately 7:20 p.m. on June 15 after receiving a complaint that an employee had discovered a firearm in a bathroom.
While deputies were investigating, Robert A. Allen of Erie returned to the business and attempted to retrieve the firearm, authorities said. Further investigation determined that Allen was allegedly in illegal possession of the firearm because it was not registered in New York State.
Allen was taken into custody and charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm under New York Penal Law 265.01-b(2). He was processed and released with an appearance ticket.
Allen is scheduled to appear in Carrollton Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.
As with all criminal charges, the accusation is merely an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
