(WNY News Now) – Three people were injured, including one who was flown to a regional trauma center, after two boats collided on Chautauqua Lake in Mayville late on July 4. The investigation remains ongoing.

MAYVILLE, N.Y. — The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a personal injury boat accident that occurred at approximately 11:10 p.m. on July 4 near 5802 Prendergast Blvd. in Mayville.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a collision involving two boats on Chautauqua Lake. One boat was carrying three people, while the other had five occupants.

Authorities said three individuals were injured in the crash. All were transported to UPMC Chautauqua for treatment, and one of the injured victims was later flown to UPMC Hamot. Officials reported the injuries were non-life-threatening.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office Navigation Division is leading the investigation into the cause of the collision.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol, Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team (WET), North Lake Fire Department, Chautauqua Fire Department, and County Medic.
