(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service in Buffalo issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for southern Chautauqua County Monday morning, with storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 60 mph.

The warning was issued at 10:21 a.m. Monday and was scheduled to remain in effect until 11:15 a.m.

At approximately 10:20 a.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Erie to near Corry and about seven miles west of Titusville. The storms were moving east at approximately 40 mph.

The warning was based on radar indications of severe weather. The primary hazard was 60 mph wind gusts, which could cause damage to roofs, siding and trees.

Areas included in the warning were Jamestown, Westfield, Lakewood, Falconer, Mayville, Clymer, Long Point State Park, Jamestown West, Chautauqua Institution and Findley Lake.

The warning also covered portions of Interstate 90 between exits 60 and 61 and Interstate 86 between exits 4 and 12.

The National Weather Service advised people in the affected area to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for protection from the storm.

The warning was issued through the NY Alert system by the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
