(WNY News Now) – A 44-year-old Portland man was arrested after Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies investigated an altercation in the Town of Portland.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an altercation in the Town of Portland at about 11:12 p.m. on Aug. 19, 2026.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, an investigation determined that Ryan J. Evans, 44, of Portland, restrained another person and made unwanted physical contact. Authorities said the incident occurred in the presence of children.

Evans was taken into custody and transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for CAP arraignment.

He was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.

The allegations are charges, and Evans is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
