(WNY News Now) – A Pittsford woman has pleaded guilty to concealing knowledge of a scheme involving the shipment and sale of 90,000 pounds of stolen used cooking oil.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Fangfang Yan, 41, of Pittsford and Shanxi, China, pleaded guilty to misprision of a felony in federal court, according to U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo.

Federal prosecutors said Yan knew that Guodeng Chen and Didi Huang were transporting stolen used cooking oil but failed to notify authorities.

On April 8, 2022, Chen and Huang allegedly arranged for 45,000 pounds of stolen cooking oil to be shipped from the Western District of New York to a refinery in Erie, Pennsylvania. They received $29,433.60 for the shipment, prosecutors said.

On April 28, 2022, another 45,000 pounds of stolen cooking oil was shipped to the same refinery. Chen and Huang received $30,618 for that shipment, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said Yan was aware of the transportation of the stolen oil but did not report it to federal authorities. During a May 6, 2022, interview with law enforcement, Yan declined to answer questions about Chen and Huang’s activities, which prosecutors said helped conceal their crimes.

Misprision of a felony carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan K. McGuire is prosecuting the case.

The investigation involved the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, New York State Police and the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General.

Yan is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 1, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci Jr.
