(WNY News Now) – A 43-year-old Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to 12 charges stemming from an April armed robbery in which a store clerk was shot and a police officer came under gunfire.

Dejuan L. Williams, also known as Juan Quionos, pleaded guilty September 11 before Erie County Court Judge Jessica Kulpit. Prosecutors said Williams was not offered a reduced plea and admitted guilt to all 12 counts in the indictment.

The charges include attempted murder, attempted assault, attempted robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, assault, grand larceny, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, unlawful fleeing, and reckless driving.

The case stems from an incident reported around 8:42 p.m. April 15 at a convenience store near Prospect Avenue and Connecticut Street.

According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, two off-duty Buffalo police officers were entering the store as customers when they encountered an armed robbery in progress.

Williams fired a shot toward one of the officers after seeing them outside the store. The other officer returned fire, striking Williams. Neither officer was injured.

Before police arrived, Williams shot a 24-year-old store clerk in the upper leg while attempting to steal cash and cigarettes. The clerk was taken to Erie County Medical Center and later released.

After the shooting, Williams reportedly fled on foot and carjacked a vehicle. Police said he drove north on Prospect Avenue before crashing into several unoccupied parked vehicles near Massachusetts Avenue.

Officers provided medical assistance at the scene before Williams was taken to ECMC for treatment of an arm injury.

A firearm was recovered from the store parking lot and placed into evidence.

The District Attorney’s Office previously determined that the officer-involved shooting was justified and that the officer who fired the shots did not commit a crime.

Williams also pleaded guilty in a separate case involving an April 4 altercation on Tacoma Avenue. Prosecutors said he struck a victim with a knife, causing an injury to the victim’s left arm. Williams pleaded guilty to attempted assault in the second degree in that case.

Williams remains held without bail.

He is scheduled to be sentenced November 17 at 9:30 a.m. The court has committed to a sentence of 20 years to life in prison as a persistent felony offender.
