(WNY News Now) – A 42-year-old Buffalo man has been arrested and charged with federal fentanyl distribution and possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of the drug.

U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced the arrest of James McClain, also known as “Jungle,” 42, of Buffalo. He is charged by criminal complaint with possession with intent to distribute and distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl.

According to the complaint, investigators conducted an undercover purchase of about 12 grams of suspected fentanyl from McClain in July 2026. The substance later tested positive for fentanyl.

Investigators conducted a second controlled purchase in August involving approximately 50 grams of suspected fentanyl, according to the complaint. That substance also later tested positive for fentanyl.

McClain appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy and was detained.

If convicted, the charge carries a potential sentence of at least five years and up to 40 years in federal prison, along with a fine of up to $5 million.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney MacCaelin A. Sedita.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Allen D. Davis II.

A criminal complaint is an accusation. McClain is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
