(WNY News Now) – A 46-year-old Salamanca man was arrested after a traffic stop on West State Street led Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office deputies to discover two active warrants from Pennsylvania, according to a sheriff’s office report.

SALAMANCA, N.Y. — Damien A. Smith, 46, of Salamanca was taken into custody on October 10 after deputies assigned to the Seneca Nation Allegany Territory stopped a vehicle on West State Street for a traffic violation.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office reported that the stop occurred at approximately 10:48 p.m. During the investigation, deputies discovered that Smith had two active warrants out of Pennsylvania.

Smith was transported to court for arraignment and subsequently remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail pending extradition to Pennsylvania, according to the arrest report.

Smith faces a charge listed by the Sheriff’s Office as fugitive of justice — out-of-state crime. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
