Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced the sentence, which was imposed by State Supreme Court Justice Deborah Haendiges. Camardo will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.
According to prosecutors, Camardo engaged in sexual intercourse with a victim younger than 15 between April and May 2024.
Authorities also said he engaged in two or more acts of sexual conduct with a second victim younger than 13 between April 2025 and June 2026. Camardo was known to both victims, and the offenses occurred at a location in the Town of Amherst.
In July 2026, Camardo pleaded guilty to rape in the second degree and course of sexual conduct against a child in the second degree. Both offenses are classified as Class D violent felonies under New York law.
Prosecutors said the plea was offered with the consent of the victims. Camardo was held pending sentencing.
The court issued final orders of protection for both victims on Monday. The orders will remain in effect until July 2054.
Keane credited the victims with helping bring the case forward, emphasizing the importance of reporting sexual abuse and cooperating with investigators.
He also encouraged anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Camardo, or anyone who has experienced a crime, to contact law enforcement.
The district attorney’s office has specially trained prosecutors and victim advocates available to provide support, protection and resources throughout the legal process.
Keane credited Amherst Police Department Detective Sergeant Ron Smith and Detective John Fiore for their work on the investigation. He also recognized the Child Advocacy Center at BestSelf and victim advocate Nicole Haffa for their assistance.
Chief Lynette M. Reda of the Erie County District Attorney’s Office Training Bureau prosecuted the case.
