SHERMAN – An Ohio native is facing charges after Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Deputies said he crashed his snowmobile after allegedly riding it while intoxicated Sunday afternoon on a public snowmobile trail in the Town of Sherman.

Sheriff Deputies were called to a hotel in the Village of Mayville to assist Mayville Fire Department with a subject injured in a snowmobile accident.

Deputies said John D. Karlovec, 28, was taken to Westfield Hospital via ambulance for injuries sustained in the crash.

Upon further investigation, Karlovec was reportedly found to be riding the snowmobile while intoxicated.

Karlovec is charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated.

Deputies said Karlovec was issued an appearance ticket and will awnser the charges in the Town of Sherman Court at a later date.
