FALCONER – The annual hoops for hospice fundraiser scheduled for Wednesday night will now take place Thursday evening after the event was rescheduled due to deteriorating weather conditions.

Event coordinator and Falconer Girls Varsity Coach Emily Scholeno told WNYNewsNow that both the JV and Varsity Girls Basketball will now take place at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. respectively.

Falconer will now face Clymer instead of Silver Creek who could not travel due to the weather.

This year is the ninth annual Hoops for Hospice that seeks to raise up to $6,000 to fight cancer.

The fundraiser will be held in honor of Kay Patterson, who recently passed away following a battle with cancer.

“This year, for one of my JV Players Kayla Jo Lynn, we are doing it in memory of her grandmother who passed two weeks ago,” Scholeno told WNYNewsNow in a recent interview. “We are able to help her family in this grieving time. They’ve contacted me saying it has helped them stay busy.”

Scholeno said Jo Lynn’s family is very tight-knit, always supporting one another, and that is exactly what they are doing during this time of mourning.
