JAMESTOWN – The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts this summer.
Officials at Jamestown Public School made the announcement Tuesday that thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Jamestown Local Development Corporation’s Fund for Downtown Programming, the group will perform “The Music of Queen: A Rock Symphony” on Friday, July 19th at 7:30 p.m.
Ticket prices start at $35 and are on sale now. They can be purchased at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts’ Box Office at 116 E. 3rd Street or at reglenna.com.
School officals said the concert will serve as a fundraiser for the JHS Red Raider Marching Band and A Cappella’s trip to Disney World in December to help supplement trip costs for students.
“The JHS Marching Band and A Cappella Choir are extremely excited about bringing this performance to the Reg Lenna,” said JHS Band Director Meghan Murray. “The funds raised from this event will help our JHS Marching Band and A Cappella students significantly as we prepare for a trip to Disney World later this year. We are extremely grateful to the Jamestown Local Development Corporation for supporting our efforts. The JHS Music Program is fortunate to have the constant support of our community and we were thrilled to receive this grant award. This will be an amazing show that should excite audiences of all ages. We hope to make this an enjoyable summer evening in downtown Jamestown!”
The Music of Queen: A Rock Symphony will be performed by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra along with a full rock band and vocals capturing Queen’s distinctive sound while presenting some familiar and lots of new musical colors.
School officials said the show is a great way to introduce rock fans to the symphony experience with music that they already know and love.
Murray will also be a guest conductor for one of the Queen songs with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our students and our community to hear a professional orchestra in the beautiful Reg Lenna Center for the Arts,” said JHS A Cappella Choir Director Norm Lydell. “The music of Queen is very popular with our students, so they will appreciate the Buffalo Philharmonic joining with rock musicians to celebrate music that is familiar to them. In our world of music education there are few experiences that can top a live performance by professional musicians. This concert will also provide tremendous support for our venture to perform with a professional orchestra and chorus in Disney’s Candlelight Processional. Please help us make this community event a success!”
The Jamestown Local Development Corporation received a Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) award to support all-season Downtown Jamestown programming.
A grant and loan fund has been developed to support programming that will attract a range of audiences to the Downtown and Riverwalk throughout the year and encourage an influx of patrons to downtown businesses.
Officials said the funding will allow the Jamestown Band and Chorus Association to present a world class show in Jamestown with the added benefit of helping JHS Marching Band and A Cappella raise funds.
Officials hope the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra performing the Music of Queen will attract a large regional audience that will most likely spend tourism dollars in Downtown Jamestown at restaurants, shops and hotels.
“This is exactly the type of activity that the Fund for Downtown Programming was created to bring to Downtown Jamestown,” said Jamestown Mayor Sam Teresi. “I want to thank the Jamestown High School Marching Band for taking the initiative to use the FDP as a fundraising mechanism and strengthening the organization financially. We are looking forward to a great show at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts.”
The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at 150 E. 4th Street has enthusiastically agreed to be the corporate sponsor for this event by providing financial support for this exciting show that will attract people from all of Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania.
Band and A Cappella parents will also be involved in providing support and logistics for the show as well as selling program ads from local businesses that have supported the efforts of our kids through excellence in the JHS music programs.
“Our entire team at the DoubleTree Hotel is thrilled to be a sponsor for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra show at the Reg,” said DoubleTree Hotel General Manager Brandon Wade. “We will continue to be supportive of events that further support Jamestown Public Schools and the JHS Marching Band, NYS champions.”
