ALBANY – Many look forward to this time of the year as they know a tax return is in their near future, but some New Yorkers might feel discouraged by the state having the largest tax burden.

Tax burden measures the proportion of total personal income that residents pay toward state and local taxes.

According to a study by WalletHub, New York has the largest tax burden across the country.

WalletHub compared the three states across the three tax types of state tax burdens.

That includes property taxes, individual income taxes and sales, and excise taxes.
