FREDONIA – Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson said he’ll be holding a press conference on Friday at 2 p.m. to discuss the Dec. 10 officer-involved shooting on Liberty Street in the Village of Fredonia.

Swanson confirmed to WNYNewsNow in January that the person who was killed was 23-year-old George Penev. Swanson said the family originally asked him not to disclose the name, but they ended up confirming Penev’s identity to the Buffalo News.

The DA previously added that he hopes to make the investigation process transparent and thorough.

Patrolman Nathan Scriven was the officer, according to a release in December by the Fredonia Police Department. Officer Scriven has fifteen years of full-time experience with the Village of Fredonia Police Department.

Scriven was reportedly wearing a body camera at the time of the incident. Footage from the body camera was utilized by members of the New York State Attorney General’s Office in determining that the incident did not require involvement of the New York State Attorney General’s Office.

WNYNewsNow will continue to follow the story.
