MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County’s Commissioner of Health and Human Services is thanking the hard work of several municipalities and agencies following a massive water leak in the Town of Portland last week.

Christine Schuyler says dozens of agencies came to the aid of the Town of Portland and Village of Brocton to help fix the leak that started Tuesday and lasted several days.

“All of the cooperation provided during the water emergency was monumental and helped reduce the impact and duration of the water emergency,” explained Schuyler.

On Friday, New York Rural Water Association with help from the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities found and fixed the issue.

A boil water order was in effect for several days. Water samples collected early in the weekend showed the liquid was safe to drink and officials dropped the order.
