JAMESTOWN – A new Dollar General Store will be coming to the City of Jamestown.

Jamestown’s Director of Development Vince DeJoy told WNYNewsNow the Broadway Development Group will be constructing the Dollar General store at the corner of Winsor and Crescent Streets.

DeJoy said three of the houses on the parcels were condemned. Two have been demolished and the third is expected to be demolished soon.

The Director of Development said the new store will be a great resource for residents living in the area.

“It’s definitely a food desert,” said DeJoy. “It is within walking distance for the folks who live in that area, many who are maybe transportation challenged. It will definitely clean up that neighborhood and be a transformational change and hopefully will help to ensure additional investment in the area.”

DeJoy said the design of the store fits in with the neighborhood well and doesn’t look like a typical standalone store.

Construction of the project is expected to begin sometime in Spring 2020 after the sale of the property is complete.

He thanked the Chautauqua County Department of Real Properties Services and the County Landbank for their work in helping bring the project along.
